By Meg Jones Quite a few years have passed since Dean Benzer last crawled into the open cockpit of a Stearman biplane. Pretty much everyone who flew planes for the U.S. military during World War II got their first taste of flight at the controls of Benzer first flew one in 1943 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The Whitewater native ended up in England with the Army Air Force flying in B-17s as a bombardier over France and Germany.
